In October 2003, AHRF News published its second issue, the first ever Prevention Update. In that issue we focused on the role of Voluntary Counselling & Testing (VCT) in preventing HIV transmission. A year on and this October 2004 Prevention Update sees us re-visit the subject. Miriam Taegtmeyer describes how VCT has turned around HIV testing in Kenya and examines how these lessons can be applied to the UK. Ade Fakoya suggests other ways in which we can increase the uptake of HIV testing.

In November 2004 the National African HIV Prevention Programme will be launching a good practice guide for people working in HIV prevention in the UK. AHRF News previews the guide here.
